March 7th, 2018
On behalf of the 2018 Melges 24 World Championship organizing committee and host Club, Royal Victoria Yacht Club, it is my pleasure to invite you to the 2018 Melges 24 World Championship.
From May 31st to June 8th 2018, Victoria will be welcoming competitors from around the world to its spectacular waterfront with racing in one of the most hotly contested fleets in international sailing. We are anticipating at least 60 entries, with top professional and amateur teams from around the globe. The shore base for the fleet will be at the brand-new Victoria International Marina located in Victoria’s beautiful Inner Harbour. The Royal Victoria Yacht Club is the host Club supported by the Canadian Forces Sailing Association.
The Melges 24 is one of the world’s top high performance one-design sport boats with its turbo-charged light weight designed planing hull. The race area off Victoria’s water front is ideally suited for the Melges 24 with its consistent early summer south westerly winds.
The City of Victoria is the capital of the Province of British Columbia, Canada and is located on the south end of Vancouver Island in the Pacific North West. It is set in an area of great natural beauty surrounded by unspoiled Islands, rugged coast-line and mountainous scenery. Victoria itself (pop 380,000) has a great deal to offer our visiting competitors and their families, for in addition to the wide range of accommodation, restaurants and stores there is much to interest and intrigue our visitors to the Island.
The 2018 Championship committee is a very experienced dedicated group whose goal is to fully cater to and provide our visiting competitors with a complete, well organized event and one that will go down as memorable both for the racing and the social events.
I can assure you of a warm welcome to Victoria in 2018 and hope that you will join us.
